MacTribe: Who is the SmartSound software for?
Brian Dickman: SmartSound is a fully-customizable music library solution designed to give visually-minded people a brilliant way to add great soundtracks to their projects. Customers include videographers, filmmakers, photographers, animators and other producers of audio visual content.
MT: What's the best new feature in this edition?
BD: I think the best new feature in Sonicfire Pro 5 is Timing Control. Most editors like to match up the events in their video with the big changes in the music, which can be difficult with canned music. Timing Control breaks the limitations of pre-recorded library music because it gives you a simple way to realign the major beats to match your video without changing the rhythm, tempo or duration of the music. MT: How did SmartSound get started?
BD: Our CEO, Kevin Klingler, was working in Hollywood as a composer and studio guitarist when he came up with idea for SmartSound. As technology was bringing more capability to the masses, he saw an opportunity to create a solution that gives a non-musical person the ability to create a composer-quality soundtrack at a fraction of the price. He patented the idea and brought the product to market. Now we've got the largest customizable music library and multiple patents pending on our latest advancements.
MT: How do you differentiate yourself from competition in the same space?

Actually, I like a lot of our Indie music because it is unique and created by great artists (like Tim Fagan, guitarist for Colbie Caillat). We're always adding more new music every month.
