Apple In The News
Apple, Mac, & iPhone News...

February 9th, 2010

Morning, y'all,

It is a bright, sunny, glorious day here, but try as we might we couldn't find a lot of news to mirror the weather. Apple is staying mumm on the iPad's capablities and we're finally starting to see the repercussions of that decision; Adobe apologizes, DROID gets an update...but we've found something interesting to perk you up at the end, never fear!

Read on...

iPad Round Up
Lots of information has surfaced about Apple's new "magical" device, for certain, but even after last month's release there are serious questions that remain unanswered. Are we the press a whiny bunch? Sometimes yes! But we think Apple should, since the product has been officially introduced, give the public full disclosure about what it can and cannot do. Galen Gruman of InfoWorld handles it well--plus, questioning Apple gives us anxiety attacks.

In other iPad news, a note leaked from Credit Suisse points to the company's willingness to stay "nimble" on iPad pricing in the event that it isn't well received. Shares have been down about 5.5% since the release of the product...we wonder, though, how much lower the price can go!

Adobe Says Sorry
The company issued an apology over the weekend for letting a bug sit unfixed in its Flash application since September 2008. It's a crash bug, which means any time it's exploited it causes Flash--and your browser--to crash. Adobe officials stated that the bug merely "fell through the cracks" but "is not something [they] take lightly."

Well, that's reassuring.

The bug has been fixed since November of last year with the release of Flash 10.1 beta, but the official 10.1 release is scheduled for the upcoming months.

And Now for Something...
Quickly (because we think you should know but don't want to give them too much love), the DROID smartphone is being upgraded to Android 2.1 this week, joining cousin Nexus One. Multi-touch functionality already in use by the Google smartphone is rumored to be moving to the Motorola handset, but the upgrade status of other features is still unknown.

Here's our favorite bit of news for the day: University of Pennsylvania researchers have been watching The New York Time's "Most Emailed" story list to figure out what makes us pass information onward. Turns out it's not snarky gossip or practical information, but positive (usually science and technology based) stories that induce a feeling of awe.

Dr. Jonah Berger, one of the head researchers on the project, put it this way:

“Emotion in general leads to transmission, and awe is quite a strong emotion. If I’ve just read this story that changes the way I understand the world and myself, I want to talk to others about what it means. I want to proselytize and share the feeling of awe. If you read the article and feel the same emotion, it will bring us closer together.”

Getting warm and fuzzy? Tell us on Twitter.

Till tomorrow, Newsies...
