Apple, Mac, & iPhone News...
January 7th, 2010
Happy Thursday folks,
CES is in full swing today over in Las Vegas, and there are cool things coming out of it already. But you know how we get, especially near the end of the week...it's Thursday, and it's time for the fun stuff. Get ready...some of this literally had us laughing out loud.
Project Natal
There is nothing funny about this new Microsoft full body game system. Designed for existing Xbox 360 and slated to ship by winter 2010, this "culmination of years of research" uses a 3D camera to track body movements and transfer them from your living room floor to your TV screen. In addition to that coolness (will anyone even use a Wii anymore when that comes out?) is the Game Room; if you've ever pined for the arcade games of yore here's your solution! It's an online arcade where you can buy the classics and invite all your Xbox virtual friends to enjoy them with you.
New games are in the works for these guys too, in the psychological action thriller genre they just invented. We'll be keeping our ear to the ground on this one...
Send This to Your Mom
If we had a nickle for every time our sainted mother told us to get a freaking headset for our cell phones because otherwise they were going to give us cancer/tumors/alzheimers we would be very rich indeed. So, Mom...this is for you.
Alzheimers researchers in Florida have completed a study of 96 mice genetically altered to develop markers of the degenerative dementia pitted against "non-demented" (actual quote!) mice to see how their brains reacted to cell phone radiation. They were exposed for one to two hours each day for seven to nine months and you know what?
They got better.
Actually, they never developed the memory impairments if the radiation began when they were young adults. See? All our yapping is SAVING our brains. More tests to come.
Trademark Infringement?
The release of the Google Nexus One has the estate of Philip K. Dick's knickers in a knot...the late author's most famous novel (and we are totally not making this up) "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" features folks chasing down androids called Nexus-6 models. Yeah...so, trademark attorneys are divided on this one, with one saying:
"Will people buying the Google phone hear the Nexus One name and think that is just like in 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?'"
We're going to go with "highly unlikely" on this one, but gosh did it make us giggle.
Did we just mention your favorite novel? Let us know on Twitter!
Till Monday, Newsies...
