Apple, Mac, & iPhone News...
December 21st, 2009
Hey guys,
Happy Monday--here's hoping that everyone who needed to travel this weekend got home safe and sound! We're looking at app developement, smartphone market share and a little good news bad news from Ford today--dig in!
"This is Our Dot-Com Boom"
Silicon Valley is hopping again, this time with iPhone app development...over 40% of app developers are based outof Northern California. If you're lucky enough to get through the approval process you can reach over 50 million iPhone and iPod touch users who are constantly looking for the newest and best entertainment the App Store can offer. 70% of the revenue goes back into your pocket, and the whole process can be done in your free time. If you score? You can score big.
Take Tapulous, for instance: their App Store sales have approached one million dollars. A month. Divide that amongst the twenty employees and you've got some pretty pleased people.
Even the advertisers are making out, and companies like AdWhirl that started with one million dollars in venture funding have been bought and sold to the tune of $750 million. Get crackin', folks. there's clearly a market for your creativity.
iPhone Losing Lead
With the appearance of ever more iPhone clones on the market the chance of them closing in grows. Apple still has the lead, but in the years since its release there have been huge advancements in other handsets, most notably the Android platform based Motorola Droid. HTC, Palm, BlackBerry...all the big dogs are fighting for this premium market and from sheer newness users are looking elsewhere for their internet surfing, music streaming, data gobbling needs!
It wouldn't be a party if AT&T didn't show up somewhere and it's worth noting that users who are wary of their 3G network often weigh their purchase against the company's service and come up without an iPhone. Even if it's half the iPhone user's fault the network is shoddy and slow we certainly hope Apple ends the exclusivity deal soon--they could regain market share by making their incredible technology available to people who are interested in avoiding AT&T entirely.
Ford Rules
Right, so the good news: new SYNC enabled cars are getting Wi-Fi access. And the bad news: new SYNC enabled cars are getting Wi-Fi access. Now drivers everywhere can ignore the road and their cell phones in favor of full on internet access for themselves and their passengers.
On the surface, this is totally cool, but really? Completely dangerous. We agree with PCWorld's Brennon Slattery on this one--we wish it were only available in the backseat. On the up side, the Wi-Fi will be password protected so the cars around you aren't sapping your signal strength.
What do you think about Wi-Fi this mobile? Tell us on Twitter.
Till tomorrow, Newsies...
